Gamescom 2012 came and went with no information on Supremacy, but with League of Legends Season 3 fast approaching, could we finally see Supremacy unveiled?

Back in August, CEO and Co-Founder of Riot Games Brandon Beck talked to Forbes.com about League of Legends Season 3, cash and prizes, broadcasts, the creation of a new international pro league called “League of Legends Championship Series”, and Thunderdome.

Missing from the interview was any mention of Supremacy.  John Gaudiosi, the Forbes journalist who interviewed Beck, didn’t ask the “Supremacy” question.

While the Forbes interview provided no details on Supremacy, the interview was published at the same time Riot Games announced the League of Legends Championship Series.

A video that went along with the announcement promised, “SEASON 3 WILL CHANGE EVERYTHING”, as shown in the screenshot below.

Does “WILL CHANGE EVERYTHING” mean we can possibly expect Supremacy?

Season 3 even has one LoL Community forum member asking the question, “At Season 2 we got Dominion , At Season 3 we get ?“

Another member, IkarusX, replied with:

Nah, i don’t think they will make ARAM official with a queue. The custom games work.

Think they will drop something completely different to suprise everyone.

What is possible: Riot registered some URLs months ago and there is still no information about it.
Called : “League of Legends: Supremacy”

I’m excited what this can be.

Of course, it’s just speculation until Riot Games officially announces its launch.

After the Season Two World Champions are crowned in Los Angeles on October 13, 2012, Riot Games has told fans more details about “League of Legends Championship Series” and Season 3 will be announced.

UPDATE: League of Legends: Supremacy was a no-show at Gamescom.  We will have to wait longer to see what Riot has planned.

ORIGINAL STORY: At Gamescom 2011, Riot Games unveiled League of Legends: Dominion for the first time to the general public where it won Best Online Game of Gamescom by GamingXP.

So, is it possible that Riot will reveal its next big title League of Legends: Supremacy in less than three weeks at Gamescom 2012 and outdo itself from last year?

While Riot hasn’t officially announced what it will be previewing at the event, it’s sure to be something big.  For one, Riot has booked two booths this year, not one like last year.

A comparison of Dominion-related and Supremacy-related domain registrations show that both IPs have a number of similarities.

Riot first registered LeagueofLegendsDominion.com (Whois) on April 21, 2011, through the brand protection company MarkMonitor.  LeagueofLegendsSupremacy.com (Whois) was registered on February 23, 2012.

While it’s not exactly one year to the day, as many LoL fans already know, Riot picked up a slew of typo domains like leageoflegendssupremacy.com (Whois) on April 13, 2012.  More importantly, the company also acquired one of its best URLs yet – supremacy.com – in mid-April 2012 as well.

The timing of trademark filings for League of Legends: Dominion (filed December 2010) and League of Legends: Supremacy (filed May 2012), bear no similarities, but that could be because Riot was trying its best to keep Supremacy hush-hush as long as possible.  When you become the most played PC game in the world, trying to acquire a matching domain like Supremacy.com after announcing the title, could cost a whole lot more.

Of course, unveiling Supremacy at Gamescom 2012 is speculation, it sure seems like the right place.

Riot Games has been busy dealing with the European League of Legends hack that took place earlier this week, but despite that, the company continues to quietly hint that it might have something big to announce very soon.  This time, the hint comes directly from the domain name Supremacy.com, which was suspected to have been secretly purchased by Riot Games back in April, but couldn’t be confirmed because of privacy measures that hid the identity of the buyer.

Well, the identity of Supremacy.com’s owner is no longer a secret.

This week, the Whois privacy on the name was removed, showing the name “Riot Games, Inc.” as the registered owner.

Removing the Whois privacy, is sometimes a sign that the company behind the name is one step closer to making some sort of announcement.  While the folks at Riot had nothing major to announce at E3 2012, Marc Merrill, President & Co-founder of Riot Games (better known as “Tryndamere”) did go on the record a month ago when asked about “Supremacy” to say, “Re: Supremacy – we’re working on a ton of awesome stuff all the time but are not ready to talk about this yet.”

Since filing a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for “League of Legends: Supremacy”, nothing has surfaced regarding “Supremacy”.

The purchase price of the premium domain name remains a mystery, but up until recently, it was listed for sale for $25,000 USD on the domain marketplace Sedo.  And that was just one of many Supremacy-related domain names the company acquired on the aftermarket.

As eSports continues to grow with many of the major events showcasing League of Legends, expect Supremacy to be something big.

Riot Games (makers of League of Legends) filed a trademark application on May 22, 2012, with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for “League of Legends: Supremacy”, confirming weeks of speculation that the company may be developing something new.

The goods and services in the trademark filing (Serial Number: 85631456) include “Downloadable computer and video game software” and “Entertainment services, namely, providing on-line computer games”.

Aside from this trademark application and a domain registration that shows Riot Games as the actual registrant organization, Riot Games still has not announced League of Legends: Supremacy, and what it will be.

Will it be an entirely new game?  Or will it simply be a new game mode like Dominion?

Since mid April, speculation has been brewing that Riot Games has something big in the works after the website Fusible.com spotted Riot acquiring domain names like leagueoflegendssupremacy.com and supremacy.com privately through the internet brand protection company MarkMonitor.

With E3 just around the corner, it’s possible Riot Games may finally make an announcement regarding League of Legends: Supremacy.

For weeks there have been skeptics who have questioned whether Riot Games is behind the secret domain name registrations for League of Legends Supremacy.

If you had any doubts that Riot Games is planning a Supremacy title, here’s some proof that Riot Games is involved.

While nearly all the domain names that have been registered or acquired to date have been done privately with no official record of the owner, one domain name that was registered in early April has slipped by the Whois privacy service of the internet brand protection company MarkMonitor.

The domain name is: leagueoflegendssupremacy.org (Whois).

Despite all the best efforts of MarkMonitor, a company that prides itself on protecting the brands of the world’s leading companies, it failed to add Whois privacy to leagueoflegendssupremacy.org.

In case you didn’t know, Riot Games moved its offices from Culver City, just outside of Los Angeles to Santa Monica.

League of Legends: Supremacy showed more signs of life this week as Riot Games continued its secret buying spree of domain names, acquiring several country code top-level domains (tld) like LeagueOfLegendsSupremacy.mx (Whois), LeagueOfLegendsSupremacy.tw (Whois), and LeagueOfLegendsSupremacy.pl (Whois).

While Riot Games didn’t register every possible country tld, it did manage to pick up a bunch of names through the brand protection company MarkMonitor on May 16, 2012.

However, as with the last batch of names revealed last month, the official identity of the owner is hidden behind MarkMonitor’s Whois privacy service for now.

For those of you not familiar with MarkMonitor, it is a brand protection company that over half the Fortune 100 rely on, so there’s pretty much no doubt that Riot Games is the actual buyer.

The newly registered names include: leagueoflegendssupremacy.co, leagueoflegendssupremacy.de, leagueoflegendssupremacy.es, leagueoflegendssupremacy.cn, leagueoflegendssupremacy.co.uk, leagueoflegendssupremacy.mx, leagueoflegendssupremacy.tw, and leagueoflegendssupremacy.pl.

Riot Games even made sure to get the adult version of the name: leagueoflegendssupremacy.xxx, but as with all other related domains, it doesn’t resolve to a web page as of right now.

There are a lot of theories floating around as to what League of Legends: Supremacy will be, ranging from a new game mode to an entirely new video game, and even talk of a film.

At this point, Riot Games has not put out anything official.

Though the launch of Supremacy looks to be a long ways off for now, we’ll continue to keep an eye out for more hints and information.
